Reynal (1902-1968), a publisher, worked for Harper & Brothers before becoming head of Blue Ribbon Books from 1930-1939. In 1933, he started his own publishing firm, Reynal & Hitchcock, in association with Curtice Hitchcock. The firm was sold to Harcourt, Brace in 1949, and Reynal became Harcourt's vice-president and director of trade book publishing until 1955, when he resigned to form Reynal & Company.
